The growth of the Mediterranean flood plains in France began during classical Antiquity. The fine-grained fluvial formations where accumulated during the Middle Age and the modern and contemporary periods. Using isotopic age dates, we are able to show that this trend goes on during the second part of the XXth century. Spatial planning must take this evolution into account.
